In 2021, the City of Ludington included in its Master Plan the concept of exploring the feasibility of creating a Friends group to support the City Parks. In 2024, a group of civic-minded individuals came together to discuss and explore the concept of a Friends group. Through these exploratory discussions, it was determined that no organization existed to fulfill this role. It was recommended that a Friends group be established. Friends of Ludington City Parks (FLCP) was formed in 2025 to support, promote, and enhance the City of Ludington's parks, outdoor recreation, and trail access. This includes, but is not limited to, sponsoring, coordinating, organizing, and/or promoting events, work projects, equipment acquisitions, and fundraising projects. 

One of FLCP's first projects was to collaborate with the City of Ludington as it updated its 5-year (2026-2030) Park and Recreation Plan.  FLCP was instrumental in obtaining input from residents and park users and providing input on draft versions of the plan.  The 5-year Park and Recreation Plan will serve to influence many of FLCP's activities.
